Abstract

Filaments, fibres, or a woven, non-woven, felted, knitted or otherwise formed textile fabric formed from any filament or fibre, or plurality of filaments or fibres, e.g. cotton, are coated and/or impregnated with a flexible nontacky, non-coalescing dry coating and/or impregnation comprising 48 to 62 parts of a hydrophobic natural unvulcanized rubber interspersed with 3,4 to 5 parts of a hydrophilic water-soluble cellulose ether, e.g. methyl cellulose ether, 13 to 17 parts of a film-forming tackifier comprising a polyvinyl ether, e.g. methyl, ethyl, isobutyl or decanol polyvinyl ether, or polyisobutylene, and 20 to 29 parts of a humectant, the parts being by weight of the resultant dry coating and/or impregnation. Specified humectants are diethylene glycol, propylene glycol, sorbitol, glycerine and other hygroscopic materials. The coating or impregnation may be applied in one step, or in two steps with a complete drying therebetween. Specification 857,890 is referred to.
