Abstract

736,598. Proofing permeable materials. COURTAULDS, Ltd. Sept. 1, 1953 [Sept. 2, 1952], No. 22037/52. Class 140. Cellulose textile materials are waterproofed and flameproofed by impregnation in a single aqueous bath comprising ammonium sulphamate and a paraffin wax waterproofing emulsion and. drying the impregnated materials. The materials to be treated may consist of cotton, linen or regenerated cellulose in any form such as woven or knitted fabric, threads or staple fibre. If desired, a portion of the ammonium sulphamate may be replaced by ammonium sulphate. Acid absorbing substances such as sodium acetate, urea and dicyandiamide may be added to the impregnating emulsion. In an example a waterproofing emulsion is prepared from ceresin wax, paraffin wax, glue, aluminium hydroxide and acetic acid. To this emulsion a solution of ammonium sulphamate is added; and the emulsion so formed used to impregnate a rayon-cotton fabric.
