Abstract

Yarns or fabrics are rendered crease-resisting by impregnating the mercerized material with an aqueous solution of thio-urea, or a substitution product thereof, and acetaldehyde, and drying rapidly at a temperature not exceeding 110 DEG C.; the thio-urea acetaldehyde solution is prepared at room temperature and is employed at a concentration insufficient to cause stiffening of the material when dry. Impregnation is preferably effected under pressure by means of rollers. In an example, a linen fabric is mercerized and dried, and impregnated with an aqueous solution containing 10 per cent thio-urea and 7,5 per cent acetaldehyde by running through rollers, the material is dried at 108-110 DEG C., lightly soaped to remove excess reagents, and dried.
