Abstract
Cellulose textile materials having an affinity for wool dyes which is not affected by wet processing, e.g. crabbing (of fabrics), setting (of yarns), scouring or milling with soap, soap and soda ash, or synthetic detergents such as sulphonated fatty alcohols or sulphonated fatty acid esters or amides, are obtained by impregnating such materials with an aqueous solution of a pH below 7 containing dicyandiamide or quanidine, resorcinol and formaldehyde, and heating to render the product formed insoluble in water. In examples, (1) loose viscose staple fibre is impregnated with an aqueous solution at room temperature containing dicyandiamide, resorcinol and formaldehyde and adjusted to a pH of 6.0 by addition of caustic soda, and is then dried at 60-70 DEG C. and heated for 15 minutes at 140 DEG C.; (2) a similar staple fibre is similarly impregnated with an aqueous solution obtained by adding resorcinol to an aqueous solution containing guanidine carbonate and formaldehyde, adjusted to a pH of 6.0 by addition of hydrochloric acid, and the impregnated material is further treated as in (1). Specifications 287,177, [Class 2 (iii)], 301,365, [Class 15 (ii)], 433,143, 506,793, 524,511 and 5687/39 (as open to inspection under Sect. 91) are referred to.
