Abstract

296,344. British Celanese, Ltd., (Assignees of Platt, H., and Dreyfus, C.). Aug. 20, 1927, [Convention date]. Fircproofing; proofing-compositions.-Combustible materials such as yarns, fabrics, paper. wood, &c., particularly yarns and fabrics made from cellulose derivatives, are flame-proofed or fireproofed by treatment with solutions, pastes or preparations comprising phosphoric acids, arsenic acids or stibinic acids. Other fireproofiing agents such as aluminium acetate may be present in the solution or preparation, which may also contain dyestuffs. For example, cellulose acetate fabric may be treated with a solution containing 50 to 150 grams of phosphoric acid per litre of water, at a temperature of from 15‹ C. to 60‹ C., for about 15 minutes, and then rinsed and dried. Or the fabric may be soaked in an aqueous solution containing 100 grams of phosphoric acid and 10 grains of basic aluminium acetate per litre at 40‹ C. for one hour. The solution may be applied by brushing or spraying, or the fireproofing reagents may be applied in the form of a paste. Paper, wood or fabrics and yarns of animal or vegetable fibres may be similarly treated. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that acid phosphates may also be used. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
