Abstract

290,263. Gardner, H. A. May 13, 1927, [Convention date]. Yarns and threads, treating with liquids.-The lustre and transparency of artificial silk in the form of fibres or threads is reduced by impregnation with a solution of a titanium salt and subsequently decomposing the salt in situ so as to deposit an insoluble white titanium compound within the material. In an example, the silk is treated with a solution of titanium sulphate or titanium potassium oxalate, and after being thoroughly impregnated the solution heated to 100‹ C.; or alternatively the impregnated material is heated in an autoclave. The treatment is applicable to nitrocellulose, cuprammonia, cellulose acetate, and viscose silks. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the treatment is applicable to cellulose ether silk. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
