Abstract
506,862. Treating cellulose derivative fabrics. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. March 30, 1938, No. 9741. Convention date, April 3, 1937. [Class 2 (ii)] Fabrics containing yarns comprising a mixture of fibres of an organic derivative of cellulose and animal fibres are treated at 10-13 C. for from about 4 to about 6 minutes with an aqueous solution of a thiocyanate of an alkali metal, of an alkaline earth metal, or of ammonia having a density of 6-10 BÚ. in order to modify their handle. Organic derivatives of cellulose mentioned are cellulose formate, acetate, propionate or butyrate and methyl, ethyl or benzyl cellulose, while animal fibres mentioned are wool silk, alpaca and camel hair. The fabrics treated may contain other fibrous materials such as regenerated cellulose filaments, while the treatment bath may contain, beside the thiocyanate and water, oily materials such as sulphonated or sulphated fatty alcohols, vegetable or mineral oils, wool fat or oil. In examples, fabrics consisting of yarns made of about 70 parts of cellulose acetate fibres and about 30 parts of wool fibres are treated with ammonium thiocyanate solution. Specification 165,164, [Class 2 (ii)], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to the treatment of fabrics containing yarns comprising fibres of an organic derivative of cellulose and yarns comprising animal fibres for about 6 minutes or less with an aqueous solution of a thiocycnate of an alkali metal, of an alkaline earth metal, or of ammonia. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
