431,670. Waterproofing. STUDIENGES. FUR FASERVEREDLUNG, (formerly DEUTSCHE KUNSTSEIDEN-STUDIENGES.), 12a, Bellevuestrasse, Berlin. Nov. 27, 1934, No. 34099. Convention date, Dec. 4, 1933. [Class 140] Animal fibrous material such as wool is rendered water repellent by subjecting the cleaned material to an additional treatment in a solution of a water soluble soap, followed by rinsing, preferably in cold water. The treatment is preferably effected at above 25‹ C. with a soap solution containing 1-4 kilogms. soap per cubic-metre, for 5-20 minutes with the addition of sodium carbonate. Suitable soaps are commercial soaps such as shredded potash soap, Marseilles soap, soap flakes, soap powder; water-soluble salts of high fatty acids such as sodium and potassium salts, saturated and unsaturated fatty acids or mixtures thereof may be used. The treatment may be repeated several times with intermediate rinsing in cold and preferably soft water. The material may be in the form of felt, loose fibre, yarn, fabric, knitted or woven goods, whether in a raw, bleached, or dyed condition, but no acid baths should follow the soap treatment.
