Abstract

Open-chain oxyalkylethers of aliphatic or mixed aliphatic cycloaliphatic amines containing one or more oxyalkyl groups are employed as wetting and penetrating agents in processes for treating fibrous materials, such as textiles or leather, in aqueous baths. The ethers may be employed in the form of their salts with higher fatty acids, with or without other dispersing, emulsifying, wetting or cleansing agents, e.g. soaps, turkey red oils, salts, esters, amides or ester-amides of alkylolamines with fatty acids, sulphonated fatty acids or sulphonic acids of aromatic or aliphatic compounds, or with addition of organic solvents soluble or insoluble in water. In examples, (1) woollen piece goods are dyed evenly in a bath containing the monooxyethylether of triethanolamine (example (1) of Specification 364,000), Wool Fast Yellow 3G, Anthraquinone blue SR extra, the sodium salt of 4-o-sulpho-p-tolylamino-1-anthra-N-methylpyridone (example B of Specification 486/08, [Class 2, Acids and salts, Organic &c.],), Glauber's salt and sulphuric acid; (2) woollen hat bodies are dyed in a bath containing Naphthylamine black 10 B, Glauber's salt, acetic acid and the dioxyethyl ether of triethanolamine, (3) a stripping bath for hat bodies made from artificial wool is charged with formic acid and the dioxyethylether of diethanol-mono-b -ethylhexylamine, which has been preferably neutralized with oleic acid, oleic sulphonic acid, or the sulphonic acid of stearic acid, or with turkey-red oil acid or the acid sulphuric ester of cetyl alcohol, the goods are introduced into the bath, zinc formaldehyde-sulphoxylate is added and the whole boiled; (4) the dioxyethylether of diethanol-b -ethylhexylamine is added to a bucking liquor for cotton material, and (5) waste wool containing oil and fat is washed in a bath containing soap and the tripropyleneglycolether of triethanolamine (obtained by introducing propylene oxide into triethanolamine solution) or the triethyleneglycolether of tripropanolamine; instead of the ethers their salts with fatty acids, e.g. stearic acid, may be used.
