Abstract

The formation of lime and magnesia soaps in textile treatment baths, which are made up with hard water and contain soap or Turkey red oil, is prevented by adding products obtained by sulphonating primary higher aliphatic alcohols containing at least eight carbon atoms in the molecule, or alkali or ammonium salts thereof. Insoluble soaps already formed in textile treatment baths are dispersed by the addition of the same products. Advantageously, alkali phosphates may also be added, and the sulphonated products may be added to water used for rinsing. Sulphonated octadecyl and lauryl alcohols and the products obtained by sulphonating the mixture of alcohols obtained by reduction of coco-nut oil fatty acids are mentioned. p Specifications 317,039, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], 318,610, (as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts), [Class 15 (ii), Dyeing, Processes &c. for], and 351,403 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the use for the same purpose of any sulphonated higher aliphatic alcohol. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
