Abstract
As softening agents for textile goods containing artificial silk, use is made of mixtures of water-insoluble saturated fatty acid amides or N-substitution products thereof (other than N-hydroxyalkyl substitution products) with sulphonation products of oleic amide or its N-substitution products. The softening agents may be prepared by mixing the saturated amide or substituted amide with oleic amide or N-substitution product thereof, and sulphonating the mixture with a sufficiently restricted proportion of sulphonating agent and (or) at a sufficiently low temperature to avoid sulphonation of the saturated amide. In the examples, (1) a solution of oleic amide and stearic amide in trichlorethylene is treated with sulphuric acid monohydrate at 0-5 DEG C., and the product is poured on ice, separated from the aqueous layer, and neutralized with caustic soda; (2) a mixture of oleic acid ethylanilide and stearic acid ethylanilide is sulphonated and worked up as in example (1); the corresponding diphenylamides may be similarly treated; (3) a mixture of oleic acid diethylamide and palmitic acid diethylamide is sulphonated and worked up as in example (1). The softening agents may be added to the finishing bath or the dye bath. The Provisional Specification refers to Specification 328,675, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.].
