Abstract
Soiled fabrics of silk, cotton or linen are cleansed by treating with an aqueous solution containing alkali and papain or bromelin. In an example, a mixture of papain, soap, soda ash, and fused sodium polysulphide is dissolved in water, and the fabrics are treated therewith at 40 to 80 DEG C., after which they are boiled in water which may contain soap, then rinsed and dried. Animal enzymes, camphor, attar of roses, dextrin, sugar, or barytes may be added to the bath. Specification 414,778 is referred to. The Provisional Specification describes also the use of other vegetable proteases such as those obtained from the fig, banana, or mulberry.ALSO:A detergent consists of a powdered mixture of an alkali and papain. Soiled fabrics of silk, cotton or linen are treated with an aqueous solution in which is dissolved a mixture of papain or bromelin, soap, soda ash and fused sodium sulphide or polysulphide. Animal enzymes, camphor, attar of roses, dextrin sugar or barytes may be incorporated in the mixture. The cleansing is effected at 40 to 80 DEG C., after which the clothes are boiled in water which may contain soap, then rinsed and dried. Specification 414,778, [Group IV], is referred to. The Provisional Specification describes also the use of other vegetable proteases such as those obtained from the fig, banana, or mulberry.
