Abstract

261,794. Heberlein & Co., Akt.-Ges. Nov. 21, 1925, [Convention date]. Addition to 255,453. Yarn &c., treating with liquids. - The properties of artificial fibres are varied by treatment with a halogen compound of phosphorus in the absence of alkali, in some cases in the presence of a salt or agent such as sodium bicarbonate or calcium carbonate that neutralizes the liberated acid. Fibres that may be treated with viscose silk, cuprammonia silk and nitrocellulose silk, also made from cellulose esters and ethers such as acetate silk; acetate silk so treated acquires an affinity for basic dyestuffs, while viscose silk is made insensitive to substantive dyesbuffs. In examples, viscose silk is treated with a solution of phosphorus trichloride in toluene, and acetate silk with a solution of phosphorus trichloride in xylene; viscose silk is impregnated with sodium acetate solution, and is then treated with a solution of phosphorus trichloride in carbon tetrachloride. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) includes the application of the above-described process to vegetable fibres generally. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
