Abstract

Textile fibres, yarns, threads, or fabrics are lubricated and rendered resistant to the accumulation of static electricity by applying to them a composition comprising 99-90 per cent of a textile lubricating oil and 1-10 per cent of a dialkyl acid o-phosphate wherein one of the alkyl groups has 6-18 carbon atoms and the other has 1-4 carbon atoms, and retaining in the materials about 0.1-10.0 per cent of the phosphate compound based on the weight of the materials. Lauryl ethyl, lauryl methyl, hexyl ethyl, stearyl ethyl, octyl butyl, and other dialkyl o-phosphates are specified. The oil may be animal, vegetable, or mineral, e.g. light mineral oil, castor, teaseed, soya bean, olive, sperm, blown sperm, blown olive, or sulphonated castor oil. If desired, the composition may be in the form of an emulsion with water. Emulsifying agents, blending agents, dyes, or other substances may be included in the composition. In an example, the composition comprises mineral oil, olive oil, and lauryl ethyl acid o-phosphate.ALSO:The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises incorporating in a solution of an organic derivative of cellulose, prior to forming it into artificial filaments, a small proportion of a dialkyl acid o-phosphate in which one of the alkyl groups contains 6-18 carbon atoms and the other contains 1-4 carbon atoms. The proportion of phosphate incorporated may be such that the formed filaments contain 0.1-5 per cent or more of this substance which renders the filaments resistant to the accumulation of static electricity. In examples, filaments are obtained by wet or dry spinning methods from a solution of cellulose acetate in acetone containing 2.5-5.0 per cent of lauryl ethyl acid o-phosphate based on the weight of cellulose acetate. Other phosphates specified are lauryl methyl, lauryl butyl, hexyl ethyl, stearyl ethyl, and octyl butyl acid o-phosphates. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:Textile materials such as fibres, yarns, threads, or fabrics, are rendered resistant to the accumulation of static electricity by applying to them a dressing or finishing composition comprising 99-90 per cent of a textile lubricating oil and 1-10 per cent of a dialkyl acid o-phosphate wherein one of the alkyl groups has 6-18 carbon atoms and the other has 1-4 carbon atoms, and retaining in the materials a proportion of about 0.1 per cent to about 10 per cent of dialkyl acid o-phosphate based on the weight of the treated materials. Lauryl ethyl acid o-phosphate is preferred but hexyl ethyl, lauryl methyl, lauryl propyl, stearyl ethyl, octyl butyl, and other dialkyl o-phosphates may be used. The oil may be animal, vegetable, or mineral, e.g. light mineral, olive, castor, teaseed, soya bean, or sperm oil, blown olive or sperm oil, or sulphonated castor oil. If desired the composition may be in the form of an emulsion with water. Emulsifying agents, blending agents, dyes or other colouring matter, or other substances may be applied to the textile materials simultaneously with the oil and phosphate composition. The textile materials treated may be of cotton, wool, silk, flax, regenerated cellulose, nylon, casein, cellulose esters, or cellulose ethers. In an example, a yarn of cellulose acetate, as it is drawn from the spinning cell passes across a wick moistened with light mineral oil containing lauryl ethyl acid o-phosphate. In another example, cellulose acetate yarn is treated with an aqueous emulsion of olive oil and lauryl ethyl acid o-phosphate. Cotton yarns are treated with a solution comprising mineral oil, olive oil, and the phosphate compound. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the treatment of textile materials with dialkyl acid o-phosphate in the absence of textile lubricating oil. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
