Fire proofing fibrous materials, esp. textiles, by impregnation in at least one aqs. bath contg. a fire-proofing agent (opt. with other agents) which gives the bath a pH preventing attack on the fibrous material (and composed of one or more acid constituents and one or more basic constituents) a fixing agent (pref. a vinyl ester polymer) and a hydrophobicising agent (pref. a wax) and then drying and heating the material. The process is simple and cheap, and the product shows better properties and resistance to abrasion, etc. than prior art treatments.
