Abstract

In the process of rendering cellulosic fabrics, e.g. paper, fire resistant, as in parent patent, by impregnation in an aq. bath contg (1) a fire resistant agent which imparts to the bath a pH which does not attack the fibrous materials, the agent comprising one or more acidic components associated with one or more basic components (2) a fixing agent and (3) a hydrophobic agent, draining and then drying the treated fabric, fabrics (papers and cartons) which have been subjected during their mfr. or processing to temps >100 degrees C may be treated in this way. The treated fabrics preserve their fire resistance and corrugated carbons are more resistant to flattening.
