Abstract

Wool, or other fibrous material consisting partly or wholly of keratin fibres, is dyed by treatment with a polymer or polymer mixture contg. one or more pigments in finely divided form, drying the pigment coating so formed on the fibres, treating the coated fibres with a further polymer to form a coating over the pigment layer and then drying and hardening the coated materials. The pigment coating is pref. applied from an aqs. soln. or emulsion contg. =4 wt.% of polymer and =0.5% of a surfactant. The dyeing is fast to sunlight and washing.
