Abstract

909,691. Coated fabrics. BRITISH-AMERICAN TOBACCO CO., Ltd. July 3, 1961 [July 15, 1960], No. 24769/60. Drawings to Specification. Class 140. A process for the improvement of cigarette machine woven textile tape comprises first treating the tape with an application of microcrystalline wax for lubricating its internal fibres and then giving the tape an external coating of a lacquer. The lacquer may be produced from a solution of a copolymer of vinyl chloride/acetate resin in a volatile solvent, e.g. a ketone or a mixture containing a ketone or ketones. The tape may be treated with the wax by being dipped in a solution of the wax in a volatile solvent and therafter dried. The lacquer coating may be applied by running a predetermined small amount of coating material on to the tape within a spreader which serves to spread the material evenly across the tape travelling thereunder, while retaining the material at the side edges of the tape. After one side of the tape has been coated with lacquer and dried, the other side may be similarly coated and dried. After drying, the coated tape may be ironed or calendered.
