Abstract

1340859 Shrink-resistant wool PRECISION PROCESSES (TEXTILES) Ltd 19 April 1971 [23 Feb 1970] 8639/70 Heading D1P Wool is rendered shrink-resistant by (i) subjecting it to an oxidative shrink-resist pretreatment so as to reduce shrinkage by 5 to 80‹, (ii) treating the modified wool with a cationic polymeric polyelectrolyle and with an aqueous emulsion of a polymer and (iii) drying. Specified polyelectrolyles are polyacrylamides, polyamides and polyvinyl imidazolines. Specified polymers are polyethylenes, polyvinyl acetates, polyacrylates, polymethyl methacrylate and polyvinyl acetate/caprate. Specified oxidising agents used in step (i) are alkali metal dichloroisocyanurates, alkali metal hypochlorites, chlorine water, potassium permanganates, and alkali metal permonosulphates. Chlorine may be neutralised with alkali metal sulphites or bisulphites after step (i). The treating bath used in step (ii) may contain a polyalkylene oxide alkyl phenol emulsifier.
