Abstract

Keratinic textile materials are dyed by a process in which the material is pretreated with an aqueous solution of a polysulphhydryl polymer as defined followed by application of the dyestuff. Preferably the polysulphydryl is applied from basic solution the material hydroextracted, rinsed with water and treated with acid to insolubilise the polysulphydryl polymer in situ before the dye is applied. Optionally the keratinic material may be bleached or oxidised with hypochlorite or peroxide before application of the polymer. Four typical structures of polysulphydryl polymer units are described. Reactive and premetallised dyes are employed in the dyeing processes.
