Abstract

In the dyeing or printing of cellulose triacetate textiles or films, entry of the dye is facilitated by swelling the material with a solution of a thiocyanate, e.g., ammonium, sodium, potassium or zinc thiocyanate, in a mixture of acetone and water, or a mixture of acetone, water and a lower fatty alcohol. The material may be pretreated with the solution, washed, and before drying, dyed. Alternatively, the dyestuff may be added to the solution to form a dye bath or a padding solution or, with the addition of thickeners, a printing paste. Suitable dyestuffs are acid, disperse acetate, water-soluble and water-insoluble premetallised dyes and azoic combinations.
