Abstract
Textile materials of cellulose esters or ethers are coloured by mechanically impregnating them with an aqueous dye liquor which swells the cellulose derivative due to a content of swelling agent consisting substantially of lower aliphatic acid and an inorganic swelling agent. The dye liquor may contain from 20 to 40 per cent of acetic acid and from 3 to 10 per cent of sodium, potassium or ammonium thiocyanate. The dyestuff may be an acid wool or direct cotton dye or an insoluble dyestuff of the kind usually applied from aqueous dispersion. The impregnated textile material may be immediately washed, the period of contact of the dye liquor with the material being of the order of 15 seconds or less. In examples: (1) cellulose acetate fabric is padded at 25 DEG C. with a dye liquor containing Artol Blue GL, 30 per cent of acetic acid and 5 per cent of sodium thiocyanate, rinsed and washed; (2) cellulose acetate fabric is padded with a dye liquor containing Amanil Chrysophenine G, 30 per cent of acetic acid and 5 per cent of sodium thiocyanate and then rinsed; and (3) a tow of cellulose acetate filaments is passed in six seconds through a dye liquor containing Vitrolan Yellow GR, Vitrolan Orange R and Artol Blue GL, 30 per cent of acetic acid and 5 per cent of sodium thiocyanate, and immediately rinsed.
