Abstract

Textile material composed of secondary cellulose acetate is pretreated with a solution of a thiocyanate and a liquid organic swelling agent and/or solvent for the cellulose acetate and is then dyed. Suitable dyestuffs are those specified in Specification 592,858. The material is preferably maintained in a relaxed condition during the pretreatment. In examples: acetate satin beaut<\>ae is (1) pretreated for 5 mins. at 20-25 DEG C. in a bath containing 25 per cent ethyl alcohol, 10 per cent ammonium thiocyanate and 65 per cent water, and dyed with Chloramine New Blue 5B; (2) pretreated as in (1) and dyed with Direct Violet 2R; (3) pretreated as in (1) and dyed with Direct Green 2G; (4) pretreated for 5 mins. at 20-25 DEG C. in a bath containing 16 per cent ethyl lactate, 10 per cent ammonium thiocyanate and 74 per cent water and dyed with Caledon Brilliant Red 3BS paste vatted with sodium hydrosulphite and ammonia, and (5) pretreated as in (4), dyed with Brenthol AS and developed with diazotized Fast Red B base.
