Abstract

The solubility of sparingly soluble wool dyes suitable for p dyeing wool from a neutral bath or from a bath containing acetic or formic acid, is enhanced by mixing the dyestuff with urea. Particularly useful are dyestuffs of the general formula <FORM:0623429/IV (c)/1> in which R1 and R2 represent atomic groupings, each of which contains an aromatic nucleus. The amount of urea is preferably 20 to 60 per cent of the dyestuff preparation. The following examples are given: (1) the dyestuff 1-amino-4-benzoylamino-41-2,11-diphenyl sulphone ---> 2-amino-8-oxynaphthalene-6-sulphonic acid is mixed with an equal weight of urea; alternative dyestuffs are those obtained from diazotized 1-amino-4-(p-chlorobenzoyl)-amino-41-methyl-2, 11-diphenyl sulphone, 1-amino-4-benzoylamino-2,11-diphenyl sulphone, 1-amino-4-(p-methoxybenzoyl) - amino - 2,11 - diphenyl sulphone, 1-amino-4-(p-chlorobenzoyl)-amino-2,11-diphenyl sulphone, or 1 - amino - 4 - (o - chlorobenzoyl) - amino - 2,11 - diphenyl sulphone with 2-amino-8-oxynaphthalene-6-sulphonic acid, or the dyestuff 1 - amino - 4 - benzoylamino - 41 - methyl-2,11-diphenyl sulphone ---> 2-amino-6-oxynaphthalene-8-sulphonic acid or 1-amino-4-acetylamino-41-methyl-2,11-diphenyl sulphone ---> 2-amino-8-oxynaphthalene-6-sulphonic acid; and (2) the dyestuff p-toluene sulphonic acid ester of 4-aminophenol ---> 1-aminonaphthalene-6-sulphonic acid ---> 1-phenylaminonaphthalene-8-sulphonic acid is mixed with an equal weight of urea.
