Abstract

A hair dye preparation comprises (a) a mixture of a triacetyl derivative of a 1 : 2 : 4-trihydroxy compound of the benzene or naphthalene series, substituted in the nucleus, if desired, by alkyl, hydroxyalkyl or alkoxy groups, and an alkaline-reacting substance capable of splitting off the acetyl groups, or (b) a mixture of two or more triacyl derivatives of the said 1 : 2 : 4-trihydroxy compounds. Specified alkaline-reacting substances are sodium carbonate, ammonia and alkaline phosphates. In examples: (1) 3 parts of 1 : 2 : 4-triacetoxynaphthalene are mixed with 4 parts of sodium carbonate; in use, degreased grey hair is brushed with a solution at 30 DEG C. obtained by boiling the mixture with aqueous alcohol, rinsed, soaped and dried to obtain a titian red dyeing; (2) 2 parts of 1 : 2 : 4-triacetoxynaphthalene and 1 part of 1 : 2 : 4-triacetoxybenzene are mixed with 4 parts of sodium carbonate and the mixture is used as in (1), with an addition of hydrogen peroxide to the solution at 30 DEG C., to obtain a full blond dyeing; (3) a mixture 1 : 2 : 4-triacetoxynaphthalene, 1 : 2 : 4-triacetoxybenzene and p-aminodiphenylamine is prepared; in use, this is dissolved in aqueous alcohol, sodium carbonate is added and the solution is boiled and cooled to 30 DEG C., and degreased grey hair is brushed with this solution containing an addition of ferrous ammonium sulphate and is rinsed, soaped and dried to obtain a full black dyeing; (4) tablets suitable for obtaining red - blond dyeings comprise a mixture, compressed to shape, of 1 : 2 : 4-triacetoxynaphthalene, 1 : 2 : 4-triacetoxybenzene, starch, dextrin, urea and sodium n-butylnaphthalene-a -sulphonate; (5) tablets suitable for obtaining brown dyeings comprise a mixture, similarly shaped, containing 1 : 2 : 4-triacetoxynaphthalene, p-aminodiphenylamine, p-aminophenol, m - toluylenediamine, starch, dextrin, sodium carbonate and a wetting agent made by treating castor oil with 1 : 5-naphtholsulphonic acid in presence of sulphuric acid.
