Abstract

The invention comprises chromium complexes of dyes of the formula X1-Cr-X2 where X1 is a dye of formula: <FORM:0852363/IV (c)/1> where A1 is a halogen atom or an alkyl group of 1-4 C atoms, B1, B2 and B3 are H or alkyl radicals of 1-4 C atoms, D is H or a halogen atom or an alkyl radical of 1-4 C atoms and X2 is a dye of formula: <FORM:0852363/IV (c)/2> where A2 is a halogen atom or an alkyl radical of 1-4 C atoms and E is H or a sulphonamide group, which complexes may be present in admixture with complexes of formula X1-Cr-X1 and X2-Cr-X2. They may be made by treating appropriate mixtures of dyes with chromium-yielding agents or by treating dyes of formula X1-Cr-X1 or X2-Cr-X2 with the dyes X2 or X1 respectively. The dyes colour natural and synthetic fibres especially those of wool and polyamides. Red dyeings are obtained. An example is provided of the preparation of the dyes and their use in dyeing wool from neutral or acetic acid baths.
