Abstract
The invention comprises dyestuffs of formula <FORM:0808798/IV (c)/1> where X is an aryl radicle and 2 is a metal complex forming group. They are made by treating compounds of formula <FORM:0808798/IV (c)/2> with reducing agents such as glucose, arsenious acid or formaldehyde; Z is specified as-COOH, -OH, -OCH3 or -OCH2COOH. The nitro monoazo starting materials are made by coupling appropriate nitroanilines and pyrazolones. The products dye cotton and regenerated cellulose in red shades which may be after-coppered. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyestuffs in which X is phenyl and -(81-sulphonaphthyl-21) and Z is COOH and -OCH2-COOH and their use in dyeing cotton by an after-coppering process.
