Abstract

<FORM:0966308/C4-C5/1> where X is a direct link or OCH2, R is a benzene residue with OH or OMe oto the azo group and the alkylene group has 1 to 4 C atoms. The dyes are made in conventional fashion by coupling appropriate diazo compounds and 1-hydroxyacylamino-6-naphthols. Coupling preferably takes place in alkaline media. The dyes may be metallized, in conventional fashion, in substance, on on the fibre, to form 1,2-complexes. Representative of indicated diazo components are 2-amino-phenol and its halogen, nitro and acylamino substituted derivatives and 2 - amino - phenol - sulphonic acid amides which may be substituted on the N atom by e.g. alkyl, halogenalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, aralkyl, carbocyclic and heterocyclic groups, and 2 - amino - 4 - methylsulphonyl - 1 - phenol. Preferred naphthol components are 1-hydroxy-acetyl-and 1-carbo-(21-hydroxy)-ethoxy-amino-6-naphthol. Chromium and cobalt are preferred metals, the former yielding blue, grey to black, and the latter red to red-grey dyeing on wool. Other materials specified for dyeing are silk, leather and polyamides. Fibres obtained by spinning from an organic solution, e.g. acetate and polyterephthalate fibres, may be dyed in the mass. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes, and their cobalt and chromium complexes, and the use of the latter, obtained in substance, or on the fibre, in the dyeing of wool, silk and polyamides.
