Abstract

Textile materials are dyed from an acid bath with an o,o1-dioxymonoazo dyestuff which is suitable for dyeing from a neutral or weakly alkaline, but not from an acid bath, in the presence of an o,o1-dioxymonoazo dyestuff which per se is suitable for dyeing from an acid bath. Suitable dyestuffs of the first type are those which are free from sulphonic acid and carboxyl groups and have the general formula HO-R1-N=N-R2-OH, in which R1 indicates an aromatic residue of the benzene series and R2 the residue of a coupling component such that the two OH- groups are in adjacent position to the azo group, and the whole dyestuff molecule may contain a single sulphonamide group. Other dyestuffs of the first type are free from sulphonic acid and carboxyl groups and have the general formula <FORM:0671243/IV (c)/1> in which R1 is a residue of the benzene series in which the azo group and the hydroxyl group are in o-position to each other, R3 is a phenyl residue and the whole dyestuff molecule contains a single sulphonamide group. The mixture of dyestuffs may be used according to the single-bath chroming process or the after-chroming process. In examples: (1) wool is dyed with a mixture of the following dyestuffs, of which the first two are of the first type referred to above <FORM:0671243/IV (c)/2> <FORM:0671243/IV (c)/3> <FORM:0671243/IV (c)/4> -with the addition of sodium sulphate and acetic acid, and after cooling the dyeing is chromed by adding potassium dichromate to the bath; (2) wool is dyed with a mixture of dyestuffs consisting of the first two dyestuffs of the previous example together with the dyestuff <FORM:0671243/IV (c)/5> and chromed as before. Many other suitable dyestuffs of the first and second type are specified. Specification 254,708, [Class 2 (iii)], is referred to.
