Abstract

Mixtures of tris-azo dyes comprising 50-95 mol. % of a dye of formula: <FORM:1098126/C4-C5/1> and 50-5 mol. % of a dye of formula: <FORM:1098126/C4-C5/2> are prepared by coupling a diazo-disazo-compound of formula: <FORM:1098126/C4-C5/3> with a mixture of 1-amino-3-hydroxy-benzene and 1,3-dihydroxybenzene preferably in aqueous solution at pH 8.5, the sulphonic acid group in ring A being in the 4 or 5 position. The dye mixture is precipitated using salt or acid or a mixture thereof. Alternatively the dye mixture may be obtained by dissolving the alkali metal salts of the above dyes in the required proportions in water and precipitating or by mechanical mixing of the two dyestuffs.ALSO:Leather is dyed with a composition which comprises a mixture of tris-azo dyes the mixture being 50-95 mol % of a dye of formula <FORM:1098126/D1-D2/1> and 50-5 mol % of a dye of formula <FORM:1098126/D1-D2/2> In Example 2 specific leather dyeing processes are described, black shades are obtained.
