Abstract

The invention provides disazo-copper complex dyes of formula <FORM:1076727/C4-C5/1> in which n is 1-3 and Y is hydrogen or low (1-4 carbon atoms) alkyl or low (1-4 carbon atoms) alkoxy group or an acylamino, nitro or sulphonic acid group or a halogen atom, the dyes having 3-4 sulphonic acid groups. The dyes are prepared by tetrazotization of a compound of formula <FORM:1076727/C4-C5/2> in which X is a low alkyl radical followed by coupling in any order with naphthol sulphonic acid derivatives of formulae <FORM:1076727/C4-C5/3> <FORM:1076727/C4-C5/4> in which n and Y are as above, the disazo dye-stuff produced being coppered by using water-soluble copper salts in ammonia solution. Navy blue shades are obtained on cotton materials.ALSO:In Example 26 cotton is dyed with a copper complex dye of formula: <FORM:1076727/D1-D2/1> in presence of sodium carbonate and sulphate in aqueous solution at 40 - 95 DEG C followed by rinsing and a treatment with a cationic agent in acetic acid. A strong navy blue dyeing fast to light and wet treatments is obtained.
