Abstract

Unsymmetrical hexakisazo dyes suitable for dyeing and staining leather and having the general formula C2-->B2\sMA2-->D\sMA1-->B1\sMC1\t wherein A1 and A2 represent p-diamines of the diphenyl series, which may be further substituted and may be the same or different, C1 and C2 represent sulphonated or unsulphonated primary monoarylamines, which may be further substituted, e.g. by methyl, methoxy, nitro, hydroxy, chlorine or arylamino (in which the aryl radicle may be substituted), and may be the same or different, B1 and B2 represent H-acid coupled in either direction and D represents one of the components, capable of coupling twice, described in Specifications 481,070 and 578,001, or m-phenylenediamine, m-aminophenol or resorcinol, are made by coupling a diazodisazo compound of the formula C2--> B2\sMA2--> with a component, D, to form a trisazo dye, which is then coupled with a different diazodisazo compound C1-->B1\sM A1--> (the difference between the two diazodisazo compounds being brought about by the use of different components, or by coupling to H-acid in opposite directions, or both). In the examples, the following dyes are described: picramic acid --> (alkaline) H-acid (acid) \sM benzidine --> resorcinol \sM benzidine --> (alkaline) H-acid (acid) \sM sulphanilic acid; the above dyestuff with picramic acid replaced by aniline and resorcinol by resorcinol-4-sulphonic acid sodium salt; sulphanilic acid --> (alkaline) H-acid (acid) \sM benzidine --> m-phenylenediamine \sM benzidine --> (acid) H-acid (alkaline) \sM picramic acid; sulphanilic acid --> (acid) H-acid (alkaline) \sM o-tolidine --> m-phenylenediamine \sM benzidine --> (alkaline) H-acid (acid) \sM p-nitraniline. Reference is also made to the dyestuff sulphanilic acid --> (acid) H-acid (alkaline) \sM benzidine --> m-hydroxydiphenylamine \sM benzidine --> (alkaline) H-acid (acid) \sM p-nitraniline. Other components C1 or C2 specified are naphthionic acid, 4-amino-41-nitrodiphenylamine - 21 - sulphonic acid and dehydrothio-p-toluidinesulphonic acid. Specification 578,002 also is referred to.
