Abstract

Cellulosic textile materials are dyed or printed by applying a solution or paste containing a dyestuff which is free from sulphonic acid and carboxylic acid groups and which contains at least once the group <FORM:0837750/IV(c)/1> wherein R1 is a divalent hydrocarbon radical containing a straight chain of two or three carbon atoms between the nitrogen and oxygen atoms and A is the radical of a polybasic inorganic acid or an organic derivative thereof, and finally heating in the presence of an acid-binding agent. Preferably, an after-treatment in an aqueous neutral or alkaline bath is effected. The acid-binding agent, e.g. an alkali metal hydroxide, carbonate or bicarbonate, may be applied before, simultaneously with, or after, the dyestuff. Specified dyestuffs are of the azo, oxazine, dioxazine, triphenylmethane, anthraquinone or azaporphin series. The dyestuff solution or paste may contain the usual additives such as urea, alkyl sulphates, alginates, polyacrylates and oil-in-water emulsions. Numerous examples are given. The dyestuffs may be prepared by combining sulphonic acid hydroxyalkylamides of preliminary dyestuff products, i.e. of diazo or coupling components when using azo dyestuffs, to give the corresponding dyestuff sulphonic acid hydroxyalkylamide, or by producing sulphochlorides of dyestuffs, reacting these with alkanolamines and then, in either case, esterifying the resultant dyestuff sulphonic acidhydroxyalkylamides with polybasic inorganic acids. Alternatively, diazo or coupling components containing the esterified sulphonic acidhydroxyalkylamide group may be combined. As a further alternative, the dyestuff sulphochloride may be reacted with an inorganic ester of an aminoalcohol. Lists of suitable dyestuffs are given.
