Abstract
Wool is dyed with an acid, chrome or metallized dyestuff in the presence of orthophosphoric acid or a soluble acid salt thereof. By partially neutralizing the acid a buffering effect is obtained, particularly within the pH ranges 2-4 and 5-8. In a modification, the dyebath contains both orthophosphoric acid and acetic acid and the pH is buffered by addition of an alkaline substance. Levelling or wetting agents may be present. In examples: (1) worsted yarn is dyed in a bath containing Alizarine Light Blue BGA, Xylene Light Yellow 2G, Azo Rubinole 2G, the sodium salt of isopropyl naphthalene sulphonic acid, Glauber's salt and orthophosphoric acid, the pH being 1.6 before and 4.4 on completion of dyeing; (2) worsted yarn is dyed in a bath containing Sulfonine Blue RNC, orthophosphoric acid, ammonia, sodium salt of isopropyl naphthalene sulphonic acid and sodium bichromate, the pH of the bath being 5.2 before addition of the wool, 6.5 on addition of the wool and 6.6 on completion of dyeing; (3) worsted tops are wetted out with water, a wetting agent and orthophosphoric acid, and a solution of Omega Chrome Black S is circulated through the wool, the pH being 4.2, after which the dye is chromed by adding sodium bichromate; and (4) worsted tops are wetted out in a bath containing a wetting agent, Glauber's salt, orthophosphoric acid and Neolan Pink B, the pH being 2.5 after addition of the wool and 2.8 on completion of dyeing. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers also to printing. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
