Abstract

A caprolactam which is not substituted on nitrogen, e.g epsilon-caprolactam or C-methyl caprolactam, is employed as a textile and dyeing assistant. It may be employed for increasing the speed of solution of mercerizing and wetting agents and of coupling components in naphthol dyestuffs. It may be mixed, as by trituraation, grinding or joint fusion, with insoluble dyestuffs for dyeing cellulose acetate and polyamide rayon and thereby assist dispersion in water. When added to sulphur or vat dyestuffs, it increases their levelling and through-dying power. When added to printing colours it promotes uniformity of the prints.
