Abstract

A pad-dyeing or printing preparation comprises an aqueous viscose solution containing an organic or inorganic pigment and urea, thiourea, urethane, a salt of thiocyanic acid or a polymethylene amine such as hexamethylenediamine or tetramine. Wetting and dispersing agents, several of which are specified, may also be added. The viscose solution may be prepared from ripened viscose or from solid stabilized sodium cellulose xanthogenate prepared, for example, as described in Specification 752,341.ALSO:Textile materials are pad-dyed or printed with an aqueous viscose solution containing an organic or inorganic pigment and urea, thiourea, urethane, a salt of thiocyanic acid or a polymethylene amine such as hexamethylene - diamine ortetramine, and are then after-treated to regenerate the cellulose. Suitable pigments are carbon black, azo dyestuffs, heavy-metal lakes and pigment dyestuffs of the anthraquinone, benzanthrone and phthalocyanine series, many of which are specified. Regeneration of the cellulose may be effected by heating or steaming followed by washing, or by treatment with a precipitating bath, such as an aqueous sulphuric acid-zinc sulphate-Glauber's salt bath followed by a desulphurizing bath such as an aqueous sodium carbonate - sodium bicarbonate bath optionally containing sodium thiosulphate. The process is applicable to fibres and fabrics of natural origin such as cotton, jute, hemp, flax, straw, wool and silk and also to those of glass, regenrated cellulose, cellulose esters, polyamides, polyesters, polyvinyl chloride, polyacryonitrile, polystyrene and various copolymers. The preparation may also contain wetting, dispersing or auxiliary agents, several of which are specified. Numerous examples are given.
