Abstract

Cellulosic textile materials are dyed with reactive dyes by padding the material with a dye solution at 15-40 DEG C. followed by fixation of the dye at 15-40 DEG C. in alkali at a pH of 8-14 the reactive dyes used have a hydrolysis constant rate of 5x10-3 min-1 at the fixing temperature and at a pH of 10.5. The dyeing may be carried out with or without an intermediate drying step, preferably pH values of 8.5-12.5 are used in the fixation step. Mixtures of alkaline reagents are used in the fixing stage the initial padding process being in neutral or acid solution. The process employs reactive dyes which contain a dichloro-triazinyl group, or dichloro-pyrimidye-5-carbonyl group or a group having the formula: <FORM:1060734/D1-D2/1> in which X is a halogen substituted bridge member of the 1,3, diazine series, R, is methyl or amino, R2 and R3 are methyl or together with the nitrogen atom form a piperidyl or pyrrolidyl radical or R1, R2 and R3 together with the nitrogen atom form a radical of triethylenediamine, or the dyes contain a radical of formula <FORM:1060734/D1-D2/2> in which V is an oxygen or sulphur atom or a substituted or unsubstituted imino group and W is hydrogen or a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, aralkyl cycloalkyl or aryl group and R1, R2 and R3 have the values as above. The materials dyes may be natural or regnerated celluloses, e.g. cotton, mercerised cotton, linen, viscose or cuprammonium rayon, all of these fibres may be mixed with natural or synthetic polyamide fibres.
