Abstract

Textile materials of cellulose acetate (including triacetate) are rendered receptive to dyes or dye components by treating them before or during dyeing or printing with aqueous caprolactam. The caprolactam may be added to the dyebath or to the padding or printing preparation. Alternatively, the textile may be padded or printed with aqueous caprolactam, dried, washed if desired, and then dyed, a two-tone effect being obtained in the case of local application of the caprolactam. The textile may be dyed with acid, oxidation and disperse dyes, particularly disperse dyes of the high-temperature, slow-dyeing type, and also with azoic combinations. In the case of triacetate textiles, these may be wet-, dry- or melt-spun as described in Specifications 687,414, 719,853, 721,674, 726,900, 731,930 and 748,772, [all in Group IV (a)], or they may be made by the further acetylation of lower acetylated fibres as described in Specifications 448,816, 448,817 and 448,917, [all in Group IV]. Triacetate fibres may have been treated as described in Specification 758,442, [Group IV (a)], to raise their safe ironing point. The Provisional Specification refers also to the use, instead of caprolactam, of 2-pyrrolidone or of an aliphatic carboxylic acid open-chain amide such as acetamide or N-methyl- or N-ethyl-acetamide. Specifications 770,460 and 813,610 also are referred to.
