Abstract

1349511 Dyestuff compositions YORKSHIRE CHEMICALS Ltd 19 April 1971 [17 April 1970] 18349/70 Heading D1B The invention comprises dye concentrate solutions comprising at least 10% by weight of the concentrate of a basic dye and aqueous ethylene carbonate. As a further organic solvent a mono- or poly-hydric alcohol or their ethers and esters, a cyclic ether, a cyclic sulphone, an amide, a nitrile or a mixture thereof may be present. The solutions may also contain an aliphatic carboxylic acid and the dyes may be of the azo, anthraquinone, methine, styryl, triarylmethane, quinophthalone or nitro series. Preferred solvent compositions contain by weight 10-90% ethylene carbonate, 10-90% water and 0-45% of further organic solvent. The basic dye concentrate solutions are used to dye tannin mordanted cotton, paper, silk, jute, cellulose acetate, polyamide, polyester and polyacrylonitrile or copolymers thereof. The polyacrylonitrile is dyed from a neutral or slightly acid boiling water bath or in a pressure vessel at 100-140% or printed with a basic dye solution containing a thickener, dried and then fixed in a steamer.
