1278975 Dyeing or printing process FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 4 Nov 1969 [4 Nov 1968] 53993/69 Heading D1B Fibrous materials, e.g. natural or synthetic cellulose, cellulose acetate, polyamides, polyesters, polyacrylonitrile or copolymers thereof and blends, are dyed or printed in the presence in one or more stages of the process of a compound of the general formula where R 1 is a C 4 -C 20 alkyl group, X is Cl or Br, R 2 is a C 1 -C 20 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, an alkylphenyl group having up to 12 C atoms in the alkyl group, a phenyl, naphthyl, benzyl or benzoyl group or a group R 1 -CH(X) -CH 2 CH 2 - where R 1 and X are as above, or the acyl radical of a fatty acid having up to 18 C atoms and n is a number from 3 to 200. Preferably the compounds are addition products of the bischloromethyl ether of a polyethylene glycol (glycol MW is 100 to 2000) with an α-olefin R 1 -CH=CH 2 where R 1 is as above, e.g. octene-1, dodecene-1 or octodecene-1. Preferred amounts used are 0.1 to 5 g. per litre of aqueous dyebath or aftertreating bath and in the Examples dispersed dyes are used to dye cotton and polyethylene glycol terephthalate, wool being reserved.
