Abstract

1,256,609. Dyeing wool/synthetic fibre mixtures. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 18 Dec., 1969 [18 Dec., 1968], No. 61736/69. Heading DIB. Fibre mixtures of wool and synthetic hydrophobic fibres in which the synthetic fibres are dyed or printed with disperse dyes are treated during or after the dyeing or printing process with an aqueous solution or emulsion of a polyglycol ether compound of formula: in which n is 1 or 2, R is a hydroxy group or an organic radical having no more than 30 carbon atoms of a compound which contains 1 or 2 hydrogen atoms capable of reacting with ethylene oxide or propylene oxide and Y is an integer, X is an integer or zero, Z is an integer or zero, such that when n is 1 Y is at least 20 the sum of X and Z being at least 15, or when n is 2, Y is at least 10 and, the sum of X and Z is at least 7, the molecular weight of the compound not exceeding 7000. Synthetic fibres used are polyacrylonitrile, cellulose acetate and linear polyesters, the compounds as above being prepared from ethylene and propylene oxides, with saturated or unsaturated straight chain or branched monohydric aliphatic alcohols, alkane diol, primary or secondary alkylamine, a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic carboxylic acid or amide, a phenol, or a mono-ordialkyl-phenol. The treatment with the above compounds may be effected at 60 to 90‹C using 0.2 to 5 gms per litre of the compound. The treatment removes the disperse dye from the wool portion of the mixture.
