Abstract

Organic fibres particularly natural and synthetic polyamide fibres are dyed by impregnating at a temperature below the drawing temperature with a dispersion of a non-cationic dyestuff at pH 2-7, said dispersion containing as a carrier the following:- a) An unsulphated amide of aliphatic optionally substituted monocarboxylic acid having at least one lipophilic radical of not less than 8 carbon atoms with a primary or secondary amine having at least one low hydroxyalkyl group and b) either i) an amide as above which is sulphated or ii) a sulphated (alkyl-phenyl)-(2,3-dihydroxypropyl)-ether the alkyl radical of which have 8-12 carbon atoms or iii) a mixture of components i) and ii), the weight of the sulphated compounds to the unsulphated acid amides being 5:1 to 1:5, the dyeing being finished by a heat treatment which might be an acid shock process or steaming or a thermo-fixation at 150-250 DEG C.
