Abstract

Printing; regenerated celluloses, dyeing.--Vegetable or animal fibres or fibres of regenerated cellulose or mixed fabrics thereof are printed with chromium mordant dyestuffs, other than alizarin dyestuffs, with incorporation in the printing paste of lactic acid or a salt or ester thereof and development of the colour by steaming. Specified animal fibres are wool and silk and specified cellulosic fibres are cotton and viscose and cuprammonium artificial silks. The process is applicable to coloured discharge, as well as to direct, printing. The following examples are specified: (1) Natural silk, viscose, wool or cotton or a mixed fabric composed of these fibres is printed with an aqueous paste containing Chromocitronine R, urea, gum arabic thickening and chromium lactate, dried, steamed for 45 minutes and washed; the dyestuff may be replaced by Chromcitronine 3R, the dyestuff of example 1 of Specification 255,086, [Class 15 (ii)], Chromorhodine B, Chromazurine D, the dyestuff of example 1 of Specification 301,329, [Class 15 (ii)], or Cuba wood extract. (2) A viscose or viscose-cotton fabric is printed with an aqueous paste containing Modern violet, acetic acid, gum arabic thickening and chromium lactate, dried, steamed for 45 minutes, washed and, if necessary, soaped. (3) A viscose and/or natural silk material is printed with an aqueous paste containing Chromocitronine R, the dyestuff of example 1 of Specification 255,086, urea, gum arabic thickening, chromium acetate and lactic acid, dried and further treated as in (2). Specifications 18787/92, 18052/99, [both in Class 15], 318,469, 319,457, [both in Class 15 (ii)], 387,297 and 412,391 also are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also (1) the use of padding solutions prepared similarly to the printing pastes, (2) an example in which cotton, viscose or cuprammonium artificial silk, or wool is printed with an aqueous paste containing an alizarin dyestuff, viz. Anthracene brown S, carragheen moss thickening and chromium lactate, dried, steamed for 45 minutes, washed and, if necessary, soaped. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
