Abstract

550,663. Dyeing textiles. SOC. OF CHEMICAL INDUSTRY IN BASLE. July 18, 1941, Nos. 9110 and 9111. Convention dates, July 22, 1940, and Dec. 12, 1940. [Classes 2 (iii) and 15 (ii)] Printing. Water-soluble dyestuffs are fixed on textile materials in printing by incorporating in the printing preparation at least 180 grams of urea per kilo and steaming the printed material in presence of formaldehyde and a catalyst of acid reaction. The process is applicable to cellulosic material, e.g. of cotton or regenerated cellulose fibres, animal fibres, e.g. wool or silk, and animalized artificial fibres, and the dyestuffs may be direct dyes, e.g. of the Chlorantine or Chlorantine fast types, acid wool dyes, e.g. of the Alizarine fast, Alizarine sapphire, Bril. liant alizarine fast, Neolan, Lanasol, Cloth fast, Brilliant cloth fast, Benzyl fast, Kiton fast and Fullacine types, or basic dyes. Specified catalysts are formic acid, lactic acid, ammonium phosphate and ammonium thiocyanate. The preferred thickenings are those of low solid content, e.g. sodium alginate, tragacanth or carob bean flour. In examples (1) a viscose fabric is printed with an aqueous paste containing Cloth fast green G or Neolan violet 5R, urea (200 grams per kilo. of paste), carob bean flour thickening and lactic acid and the print is dried, treated with steam containing formaldehyde, and soaped ; (2) mercerized satin is printed with an aqueous paste containing as dyestuff, Cloth fast brilliant red 2B, and other ingredients as in (1) and the print is dried, and. exposed to the vapours from a boiling aqueous solution of formaldehyde ; (3) cotton satin is printed with an aqueous paste containing Chlorantine fast violet 4BLL, urea (200 grams per kilo.), tragacanth thickening and mono-ammonium phosphate and the print is fixed by treatment with steam containing formaldehyde; (4) a cotton fabric is printed with an aqueous paste containing Rhodamine G, urea (200 grams per kilo.), carob bean flour thickening and monoammonium phosphate, and the print is dried and treated with steam containing formaldehyde ; (5) calico is printed with an aqueous paste containing Acid rhodamine 3R, urea (200 grams. per kilo.), Methocel M thickening and mono-ammonium phosphate and the print is dried and further treated as in (1) ; (6) a cotton fabric is printed with an aqueous paste containing Direct brown M, urea, (200 grams. per kilo.) carob bean flour thickening, triammonium phosphate and potassium copper tartrate and the print is dried and further treated as in (1); (7) woollen muslin is printed with an aqueous paste containing Cloth fast red GS, urea (180 grams per kilo.), tragacanth thickening and mono-ammonium phosphate and the print is dried and further treated, as in (1) ; (8) calico is printed with an aqueous paste containing Chlorantine fast scarlet BNLL or Chlorantine fast red 6BLL, urea (180 grams per kilo.), ammonium sulphate or mono-ammonium phosphate and the print is dried and further treated as in (1). ).
