Abstract

501,913. Dyeing and waterproofing textiles. BROOKES, N. E. (Fõrberei Akt.- Ges. vorm. E. Stolte Nachfolger & W. Missy) Feb. 1, 1938, No. 9174 /37. [Classes 2 (iii) and 15 (ii)] [Also in Group VIII] Acid wool dyes, dyeing with; cellulose derivatives and regenerated celluloses, dyeing.-Textile material of natural or regenerated cellulose or of a cellulose derivative still retaining reactive hydroxyl groups is made capable of being dyed with acid wool dyes by treating it, in the absence of materials forming alkali cellulose, with an aliphatic or aliphatically-substituted aromatic isocyanate containing at least one aliphatic residue of at least 4 carbon atoms and containing a tertiary nitrogen atom in addition to that in the isocyanate group and thereafter heating the treated material. The dyeings are waterrepellent and resistant to soap and benzine washing. In examples : (1) viscose artificial silk is impregnated by treatment for 3 seconds with a solution in benzine at 20‹ C. of N-etyl- N - octodecylbenzamide - 3 - isocyanate, centrifuged, heated for 10 minutes at 140‹ C. and dyed with Polar red 3B in an aqueous bath at 90-100‹ C. containing sodium sulphate and acetic acid; (2) viscose artificial silk is impregnated by treatment for 20 minutes with an aqueous emulsion at 20‹ C. of cetylmethylaminoethyl isocyanate, centrifuged, dried, heated for 10 minutes at 140‹ C. and dyed with Indocyanine B in an aqueous bath at 90-100‹ C. containing sodium sulphate and acetic acid. N-Cetyl-N-octodecylbenzamide-3-isocyanate is obtained by treating with phosgene the product obtained by reducing the nitro group in the condensation product from 3-nitrobenzoyl chloride and cetyloctodecylamine. Cetylmethylaminoethyl isocyanate is obtained by treating with phosgene the condensation product from cetylmethylamine and chloroethylamine.
