Abstract

Diazotizable fibres are produced by treating cotton fibres, cellulose artificial fibres, or partially acetylated fibres, with an aromatic o-dinitro compound in presence of an inorganic agent which binds acid (other than a caustic alkali), and subsequently reducing the product thus obtained. In examples, (1) viscose silk is treated with fused 1, 2-dinitro-4, bromobenzene containing lithium or sodium carbonate, washed and reduced by means of sodium hydrosulphite; (2) mercerized cotton yarn, swollen by means of caustic soda lye, is treated with fused 1, 2-dinitro-4, 5, dichlorobenzene containing sodium carbonate and subsequently reduced. The product in each case may be diazotized and coupled with various dye components. Specifications 346,385 and 347,117 are referred to.
