Abstract

Azo dyes, (a) containing one sulpho group in o-position to the azo group but no hydroxy group, or (b) obtained by coupling unsulphonated diazo compounds containing no hydroxy group with 1-naphthylamine-8-sulphonic acid or its phenyl &c. derivatives, dye acetyl silk. Examples of the first type are the monoazo dyes from p-nitraniline-o-sulphonic acid or 2-naphthylamine-1-sulphonic acid and N-alkyl or N-aryl substituted amines or m-toluylenediamine; dyes are specified from p-nitraniline-o-sulphonic acid and dimethylaniline, diphenylamine, phenyl- or p-tolyl-a -naphthylamine, ethyl-a - or -b -naphthylamine, phenyl-b -naphthylamine, a -a 1- or b -b 1-dinaphthylamine, or a -naphthylamine; the nitro group of these dyes may be reduced and the resulting amino or diamino body diazotized and coupled with a m-diamine. Examples of the second type are p-nitraniline-azo-peri acid, or p-nitraniline-azo-phenyl-peri acid, and the corresponding dyes from dinitraniline &c. Specification 182,830, [Class 15 (ii), Dyeing, Processes &c. for], is referred to.ALSO:Acetyl silk is dyed with (a) monosulphonated azo dyes, containing no hydroxy group, in which the sulpho group is in o-position to the azo group, or (b) mono azo dyes from unsulphonated diazo compounds containing no hydroxy group and 1-naphthylamine-8-sulphonic acid or its phenyl &c. derivatives. Examples of the first type are the monoazo dyes from diazotized p-nitraniline-o-sulphonic acid or 2-naphthylamine-1-sulphonic acid and N-alkyl or N-aryl substituted amines or m-toluylenediamine; dyes are specified from p-nitraniline-o-sulphonic acid and dimethylaniline, diphenylamine, phenyl- or p-tolyl-a -naphthylamine, ethyl-a - or b -naphthylamine, phenyl-b -naphthylamine, a -a 1- or b -b 1-dinaphthylamine, or a -naphthylamine; the nitro group of these dyes may be reduced and the resulting amino or diamino body diazotized and coupled with a m-diamine. Examples of the second type are p-nitraniline-azo-peri acid or p-nitraniline-azo-phenyl-peri acid, and the corresponding dyes from dinitraniline &c. Specification 182,830 is referred to.
