Abstract

Azo dyes are formed on the material by coupling an arylide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid with a diazotized aminoazo compound of the formula <FORM:0379555/IV/1> in which the benzene nuclei contain no further substituents. They dye the fibre bordeaux red to claret and violet shades fast to washing, chlorine and bowking. In examples cotton is dyed by impregnating (1) with the a -naphthylamide and developing with diazotized 4-amino-5-methoxyazobenzene, (2) with the o-anisidide and printing with a paste containing diazotized 5-ethoxyaminoazobenzene. A table showing the shades produced from various arylides and diazotized 4-amino-5-methoxyazobenzene is given. Specification 310,758, [Class 15 (ii), Dyeing, Processes &c. for], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers also to the formation of the above dyes on a substratum. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
