Abstract

Azo dyes, forming on the material.--Dyeings are obtained by treating the leuco compound of a sulphurized vat-dyestuff derived from a carbazole-indophenol on the fibre with a diazo compound in the absence of the usual coupling components. By using diazotized aminoazo compounds as the diazo compounds deep black shades are obtained. In an example cotton is dyed from the vat with the dyestuff described in the example of Specification 18822/09, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], and then developed with the diazo compound of 5-nitro-2-anisidine; a fast deep black shade is obtained. Instead of the above vat dyestuff those described in the examples of Specifications 9689/09, 199,360, 210,006, 234,681, 243,739, 270,348, and 280,595, [all in Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], may be used, and other diazo compounds may be employed, for example those of 2 : 5-dichloraniline, m-nitro-p-toluidine, aminoazotoluene, 4<1>-chloro-4-amino-2-methyl - 5 - methoxy-1 : 1<1>-azobenzene, benzeneazo-a -naphthylamine, 4-chloro-o-toluidine, 4-chloro-o-nitraniline, or a tetrazo compound such as the tetrazo compound of 4 : 4<1>-diamino-2-methyl-5-methoxy-1 : 1<1>-azobenzene.
