Abstract
282,548. British Dyestuffs Corporation, Ltd., and Moss, H. W. Dec. 7, 1926. Trisazo dyes dyeing cotton in bluish black shades which can be diazotized on the fibre and developed with the usual components, e.g. #-naphthol or m-toluylenediamine are made by coupling a diazotized nitramine or acidyldiamine of the benzene series, with or without other substituents, with a peri-aminonaphtholsulphonic acid in an acid medium, further coupling in an alkaline medium with a tetrazotized diamine of the benzidine series, and again coupling the resulting diazodisazo body with a-naphthylamine or its 6- or 7-sulphonic acids (or their technical mixture), the nitro group being reduced or the acidyl group removed by hydrolysis at any stage after the first coupling. In examples, (1) pnitraniline is diazotized and coupled with H-acid, the monoazo dye obtained is coupled with tetrazotized benzidine, and the product is coupled with a-naphthylamine, the nitro-group being finally reduced by sodium sulphide, (2) p-nitraniline is diazotized and coupled with H-acid, the nitro group is reduced, and the product is coupled with tetrazotized benzidine and a-naphthylamine, and (3) p-aminoacetanilide is diazotized and coupled with H acid, and the product is coupled with tetrazotized benzidine and a-naphthylamine, the acetyl group being finally removed by alkaline hydrolysis. In an example of the dyeing process, cotton is dyed with the dyestuff obtained in the examples, which is then diazotized on the fibre and developed with m-toluylendediamine, a deep black shade very fast to washing and to light is obtained. Dyestuffs from the following components are also specified :-p-nitraniline-o-sulphonic acid, 5-nitro- 2-anisidine, o-chlor-p-nitraniline, or m-nitraniline, H-acid, benzidine, and a-naphthylamine; pnitraniline, H-acid, dianisidine and a-naphthylamine; p-nitraniline, H-acid, benzidine and Cleve's acid; and p-nitraniline, 1: 8-aminonaphthol-4-sulphonic acid, benzidine and a-naphthylamine. Specification 15725/91 is referred to.
